February Newsletter

At JCI, we connect and develop the future leaders of the world

Leaders who are driven by continuous improvement, focusing on both personal and professional development.

Leaders who believe in the importance of giving back, by identifying needs in their communities and undertaking projects to create the positive changes they want to see.

Leaders who want to share their successes and learn from other young active citizens by hosting conferences and events in interesting locations all around the world.

Welcome to 2018!

During Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Town Hall meeting in the City of Edmonton February 1, he was asked about posting on social media vs how to be truly effective in our democracies.

"What is the best way I can be engaged in democracy or in my community or in public life or in the discussions that we have on how we create a better future?"

"Choosing to be an ACTIVE CITIZEN, volunteering after work or after school, getting involved in a cause that matters, charitable givings, looking for ways of shaping and impacting the community around you... ...[which] probably isn't contributing to the community by posting on [social media] comment threads.

You know, tangible IMPACTS in the world around you you can make a huge difference and the more individual citizens feel EMPOWERED to actually shape and influence the world around you, the better off our society will be.

So, how you might choose to get involved might be different from someone else will choose to get involved but look for the ways that fit with your passion, your strengths, your interests and realize that it's up to each and every one of us, each and every day to shape the world that we're part of in a way that is consistent with what we want that world to be." (emphasis mine)

The 2018 JCI Edmonton Board of Directors has been busy building a foundation that will EMPOWER our members to take action.

The budget has been passed to maximize PROJECTS and TRAVEL for our members. The remainder is allocated to TRAINING, EVENTS, and marketing.

Now, we need YOUR input, YOUR ideas and YOUR enthusiasm!

Please take 3 minutes to fill out the Member or Alumni Survey and if you already have a project idea, fill out the Project Proposal Form or else join us at Impact Training Feb 15.

All submissions in February will be entered into a random draw to win:

Feb 25 - Ronald McDonald House

Ronald McDonald House Charities® Northern Alberta (RMHCNA) is the only facility in Edmonton and the surrounding area that provides temporary and affordable accommodation for families whose children are being treated in one of Edmonton’s medical facilities.

This is an opportunity for you to give back and serve a nutritious meal to the families staying in the house while their children receive treatment at the Stollery Childrens Hospital. Don't worry - many hands make for light work. Our resident chef will make sure that all the meals are easily prepared, and fun to make. Who knows, maybe you will even learn some new tricks to try in your own kitchen.

No culinary experience necessary, everyone welcome. Hope to see you there!
